Pah-ty on the Hah-bah!

Last night, I went to the Party on the Harbor at the Institute of Contemporary Art. I don't regularly go to fancy cocktail, fundraisers at art museums, but I've got a hook up, so we were able to get a discounted ticket. It was great! There were fabulous fashions everywhere, cocktails, fun appetizers, amazing music, a great photo booth and fun exhibits all around. The record/vinyl exhibit was pretty interesting, although we didn't really "get" all of it. I am a teeny bit old-fashioned and I much prefer to look at Monets at the MFA, and listen to Bach instead of John Cage, but I have a place in my heart for ALL art, no matter the form. It was so fun to take in all the neat ideas and concepts with old vinyl records. The Taiyo Kimura pieces were my favorite. I love a good sense of humor in art and he's totally wacky. Maybe that's why we stood there for 10 minutes watching the videos and looking at his sketches.

The ladies at the party were looking FABULOUS! We stood at the door waiting for my best friend and his girlfriend because they had our tickets, but it was like a red carpet show! All I needed was Joan Rivers and I had myself a show! There were plenty of high heels and sexy little dresses...3 Anthro Dresses total (and I had a good look). I saw one lady sporting the Traced Twirls Dress (original, B&W colorway, sans halter strap) and I saw the photog sporting the Study of Shapes Dress. Me? I jumped on the Mompos Train after waiting for it to hit my local store FOR.EVER. It really is a fab dress...it fits like a glove and it's impeccable quality. I normally do not buy dresses for the non-sale price and especially at a pricepoint above $200, but I made an exception for this dress. I missed out on the Spinning Lace Dress and I didn't want that to happen to me again. The fit is similar to the Spinning Lace dress, if not a little more roomy in the bodice. It fits a little better if you fill out the chest a little more than when I tried it on. If you are small on top, you may want to wear a padded undergarment to fill it out a bit more.

This is a total Quinn Fabray look, isn't it? I totally had that "I'm on Glee" feeling. I actually had not watched ONE Glee episode since the pilot aired a few years ago until a week ago. I saw that it was available streaming on Netflix and I was hooked! I am still in the first season, but I'm totally obsessed!

I'm also obsessed with Seychelles. I can wear these comfortably without feeling like I'm going to topple over. Frankly, I was worried about these because of my ankle trouble lately, but I'm not feeling too sore this morning and I may try to make it to the gym later.

There aren't many cool spring nights left, so any chance I have to work the Karelia Coat, I take!

So...in other news, I joined Kim's Shopping Ban. I honestly don't know if I'll be able to hold out, but I DO need to make some investments in some recording equipment. It's the 7th, so we'll see how well I do. Anyone else ALREADY struggling?!

Reviewed: Two Maxi-Dresses and a Not-so-Maxi Dress

Good afternoon, Readers. I hope you all have been keeping warm. Truth be told, I've been away from my blog for a bit. I wear a uniform to work and I have not been dressing up because in New England, the weather has been brutal. A couple of days ago, it was in the single digits and it can't seem to stop snowing. We have had a storm every week for a while and we are running out of places to put the snow. I definitely have a little bit of the winter blues. I have been keeping up with other bloggers and seeing their cute outfits and I'm stuck wearing ugly snow boots and jeans. Driving in this muck isn't a picnic either. To top it all off, it's snowing again today and I will have to get to rehearsal in it. I think I will take public transit tonight, even though it will take much longer.

Anyway, I went to Anthro today to scope out the new arrivals. I also found a Peggy Sue Dress on the sale rack in my size and I am sick of waiting for a sale on the Laced With Grace Dress, so I grabbed it. I had been thinking about it ever since it went on sale and I regretted not picking it up because I so fell in love with it when I tried it on in the beginning of December. Plus, it's on my recital dress list since I booked a date in late April! I'm very excited! It's been a few years since I sang a solo recital and as soon as my lutenist ok's the date, we are on!

However, there are a few more dresses in contention now...

Irresistible Maxi Dress $178 Tracy Reese

I have been eyeing this pretty ever since it appeared on the website after Christmas. I love everything about it, I love the color, the neckline...it's amazing. I had been scared to try it on. Honestly, it's way too long and it would need to be hemmed, but otherwise...it's turquoise perfection.

So, if you have tried on or own a Dreamy Drape Dress (aka Speckled Ink Dress), it is the same soft, drapey jersey. I will be perfectly honest with you and say that this dress is like singing A Capella. It will expose any bumps or imperfections on your body that you don't want highlighted. So, if you will be bothered by this, this dress is not for you and will frustrate you. I found the dress to be very flattering and with a price point that didn't scare me (*I'm looking at you Spinning Lace Dress*). Plus, this is a maxi dress that didn't seem to overwhelm me. A maxi dress is a tricky situation for a petite. I am only 5'1, but I didn't feel short in this. Wishlisted for further consideration.

Botanical Crossway Dress $188 Moulinette Soeurs

Not only was I surprised about how much I liked this once it was on, I was also shocked that it wasn't too long. I am very grateful that a petite size is offered which is 3.5" shorter. There was a lovely pouf of a dress beneath the bodice, but it felt light and airy...like summer. The bodice, which I got a close-up of on the last photo, is beautiful. It's well-fitted and seems like something that would be perfect for a Caribbean vacation. I don't know if it's right for the stage, since the pattern may be very distracting, but it's under consideration. I would pay full-price for this one and not feel bad about it. Well done, Moulinette Soeurs!

Crossing the Stripes Dress $228 Eva Franco

Eva Franco and I are not friends. She is always making cute dresses that don't fit me at all. The Mullany Dress just about broke my heart and now this. This is just a little too big. It's a cute idea and the fabric is gorgeous. The little belt is actually denim which is cute, but this dress is not for a little, little gal like me. Price point is high, wait for the sale. Pass for me!

I tried on a bunch of sale items on too, but only left with the Peggy Sue Dress because that's all that was left on my merchandise credit. I am still intrigued by the idea of the Laced with Grace Dress, but it has to go on sale for me to buy it. NO EXCEPTION.

Lastly, I'm putting the Closet Challenge on hold until Spring! Stay tuned until April when I'm ready to collect entries again!

10.10.10 Sunday Reviews and an OOTD

Happy Sunday, all! I hope everyone is enjoying the Columbus Day weekend! AAAAAAAND...

It's 10/10/10! Holy Moly! I love when dates like this happen! I got married on 07/07/07 and part of me believes that dates like this are good luck! Hope you are doing something fun today!

I stopped into Anthro on my way to work yesterday and had exactly 8 minutes to try on some things in the dressing room (I stopped by specifically to purchase the Refined Cord Shirtdress since I could NOT stop thinking about it since trying it on a month ago). Here's what I grabbed for you guys:

Mystery Moulinette Soeurs Dress $168 (??)

Hm. Okay. This dress seems very....um...like something I would have grabbed to wear to a party or a school dance in 7th grade. The material is nice and the fit is okay, but something about it doesn't seem very Anthro. It just makes me think about 7th grade, which for me was in the late 80's. Pass.


Switching Sides Sweater $118 Moth & Wall Street Skirt $88 Moulinette Soeurs

First off, the sweater: How adorable! This is a very "me" sweater, so when I saw it hit the website, I just had to try it on. It's simply adorable. The fabric is soft all around and the different colorways are just so cute. This is the gray colorway and it's darling and fits awesome. $118 is a little high for me, so I'll pick it up when it hits sale.

Now for the skirt...meh. I'm not quite sure who came up with the name Wall Street Skirt? It looks really cute with the sweater, but if you are petite, you should order the petite size online. Hemming this will ruin the beautiful design on the front. Otherwise, it's a cute skirt, that fits TTS. It's a thin wale corduroy and $88 is a good price for a skirt at Anthro! I think it's cute, but it's not really my style. Pass.


Peppered & Striped Skirt $128 Tracy Reese

I know this skirt has been reviewed to death, but I decided to throw my .02 in. It's a cute skirt and well-made (Tracy Reese for goodness sake), but I'm not quite sure it's a winner for a petite frame. On me, I think it's making me look a bit dowdy. If you love this and you are 5'2 or smaller, wait for the sale and get this altered a few inches. It would probably be super cutie-cute if it were 3"-4" shorter.

And here's my OOTD...my beloved High Tea Blouse and me are finally together. We've come a long way to get here and I had to call many Anthros, but finally tracked down this pretty in Harvard Square. Yay!
